Snakeoil community has moved

:cheer3: We have a new community. Unfortunately the old forums software is really difficult to maintain and I much prefer to dedicate more time on development and less on fixing the forum issues. Hopefully this new forum will be better.

Unfortunately it will take some time to adjust, and I am still learning the ins-and-outs on how to use this software myself. This is a new beginning for all of us, and I hope together we can make this community more vibrant than before.

A big (perhaps only?) reason to move to this new software is the new automations that are now possible.

Unfortunately a lot of these have to be created from scratch. And while this community is a fresh start, the code software (gitlab is not). So the automation is going to be a bit complicated.

Ideally I would like to have a proper workflow: Bug report → Bug confirmed → Gitlab issue automatically created → Topic created in community so users are aware → Topic closed when bug is fixed. The same workflow will apply for new features too.

:backhand_index_pointing_up: But I ain’t got no time for that, so the process is going to be less formalised (for now anyway) :embarrassed2:. This is the current state of affairs:

As I am incorporating something old (gitlab) with something new (this new community), the workflow is going to be a bit more complicated than usual. I am testing this new tool called n8n. Admittedly I can do this a lot quicker via direct code, however this n8n is just way cooler, and it allows me integrate with more things down the road.

Eventually Patreon and Buymeacoffee will be integrated into this as well, but that will be another story. Unfortunately PayPal integration is still a mystery and I still have yet to find any documentation that explains how it is supposed to work (Anything Elon Musk is involved in are probably as half-arsed as this).

In time as this builds up everything is going to be epic, and you guys will get more visibility on Snakeoil work, and can better provide input/feedback and I can change course as needed.

Hopefully folks will get used to this new forum software. It is just easier/quicker to do posts with pictures. And the potential for automations just seal the deal for me.

:loudspeaker: Snakeoil sponsors need to be recognised. Unfortunately the switch to this new forum is made rather abruptly and that information has yet to be transferred over. It will be in time.

Folks can get a first taste of it happening here.

Still very much a work in progress as I am hitting a lot of false positives, and code duplication. :depressed1:

My problem is trying to do everything in a single workflow - and this intent do over-complicate things a bit. This will get better in time. And all the posts will be standardised.

Also, if you do not want to see these development posts, just go to the Development Category, look for the :bell: notification somewhere at the top right of the page, click on it, and select “Mute”.

You can use this same method to mute any categories you’re not interested in, or select the other options if you’re interested.

Normal is the default.
