Snakeoil currently works on Ubuntu. Snakeoil will work on either Desktop or Server editions.
Install Guides
There are already multiple guides on the Internet on how to install Ubuntu so we will not re-invent the wheels here.
We recommend you use Ubuntu Server edition as itโs more lightweight. However the server edition is more difficult to install for people new to Linux. Desktop edition is easier to install however it will install tons of software that you will never use.
Please install Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) as this has been thoroughly tested. Older Ubuntu versions will not work. Newer Ubuntu versions may not work and NOT supported.
AMD
Pi
Download the Raspeberry Pi Installer here and use it to install Ubuntu on a micro SD card.
Edit settings (if required).
Please ensure that you have enabled SSH. Do NOT configure wireless LAN. Snakeoil is designed for a wired network and will fail if wireless LAN is enabled.
Please note that SnakeOil does NOT work with Raspberry Pi OS.
Some users have reported an improvement with using a USB instead of a microSD card on a Pi 5. USB boot does not work for older Pi models. The process to install Ubuntu is the same, but it requires a default 5V 5A power supply. Suggest attaching a monitor to the read how to temporarily by pass this check and how to modify the config file for a permanent bypass.
